As the title indicates this will be the final post to Jack’s Blog. Before hysteria sets in for our loyal fans (there are not that many of you and the vast majority are related to Jack) let me point out two things. First, that this post has quite a bit of information in it with several good videos. Second, there will be a new blog (SherrardBoys, SherrardBrothers, TheBrothersSherrard I’m still working on a name) to chronicle both Jack’s and soon to be little brother Hilton’s escapades. Just as a technical note some of the video and pictures posted here have some quality control issues due to the fact that our camera has not been cooperating too well recently. Again don’t worry, because my next task after finishing this post is to order a new camera that hopefully I will have in my possession and will have learned how to use when Hilton finally arrives.

Silly Pig Pillow Video is of Jack playing with the pillow gift that Lindsay and I bought as a joke for Pop last Christmas. It has already spent time at most of the rest of the family. I wonder who will get it this Christmas? I wonder who’s car it will be in when Christmas is over?

Math Prodigy Video shows one of Jack’s big interests in recent weeks. He has started to learn his two digit numbers. This was initially motivated by his desire to control the songs on “his” CD player that we have in the kitchen. If he wanted to hear the Jimmy Crack Corn song (and he did want to hear it MANY MANY TIMES) he had to learn that it was #14. Then he branched out to typing two digit numbers and entering them on Daddy’s HP reverse polish notation graphing calculator. Talk about making a math teacher proud. Then he started to tell time on a digital clock, and finally has taken to telling Daddy how many sit ups to do during our daily exercise time. Unfortunately for Dad, Jack’s favorite two digit numbers are 77 and 80, so the number of sit ups I have had to do has increased dramatically since he learned this new skill.

Education Video I suppose goes hand in hand with being a math prodigy. Jack asked me as we were driving by the High School one day when he would get to go to High School. I think this question originally came up because he remembered going to the Relay for Life event that was held at Franklin County High School and he got to play in the “moonwalk” inflatable house thing and loved it. I suppose there are worse reasons for wanting to go to high school. Anyhow we helped him figure out all the schools you go to at what ages and since then where everyone in the family went to college.

Playground Video is a long compilation of Jack playing on many of his favorite things at the local elementary school playground. By the time he starts kindergarten he will know this playground inside and out.

Chuck E Cheese Video is exactly what you would expect it to be. Jack got his first taste of the wild and crazy party that never stops that is Chuck E Cheese. He enjoyed it all thoroughly as you can tell. I will say that the Monkey Video game was fun and he enjoyed the running around like a chicken with his head cut off (which I understand is basically required for someone of his age at this place) but when we got to the skee ball everything else was just second rate. Even when we tried to get him to spend his tokens somewhere else he wouldn’t hear of it. He just kept throwing ball after ball until he was finally broke. It was also clear to me that he would have played skee ball until his parents were broke and he was living on the street. On the good side he did get to throw the balls many more times for his money than most people since they often didn’t make it up the ramp and came rolling back to him.

Jack enjoyed some time in the North Carolina Mountains for the Christain Life Conference around the fourth of July. He particularly enjoyed the playground, creek to wade in, the “boom-boom door” in the dining hall, the green stairs and elevator in the dorm where we stayed, the paddle boats on the lake, and of course throwing rocks into any body of water that would make a splash. He had fun eating meals with Dr. Alex, Miss Claire, Baby Lydia, Nana, Pop, and Aunt Dorothy.

As a caption for this playgound picture imagine you are hearing Alabama sing…”rollin’ down the back woods… Tennessee byway… one arm on the wheel…”Â

Jack enjoyed his time a Pawleys Island. He learned quite a bit about how to work the system when you are on vacation with grandparents. He had his first swiss cake roll, as well as various flavors of ice cream, sherbet, and about anything else he wanted. He played cards with Grammy, toppled dominoes with Arnie and Uncle Chip, played in the water and sand and trust me slept very well at night. Every night as he made his way around the room giving good night hugs he would say “big day tomorrow” and he was never wrong!

In this first video Uncle Chip has just jumped over the big sandcastle and then built a smaller one so Jack can join in the fun. Play the castle jumping video.

In this second video the only thing better than jumping in the sand is to jump and land in the water with a big splash. Grammy and Uncle Chip are supervising (and getting splashed!) Play the puddle jumping video.

Wet sand is the best.

Â

How many times do you think Grammy and Mama had to jump off this pier? The wind blew like crazy most of the time we were at the beach so in this video you mostly just hear the wind, but you get to see one of the many repetitions of this beach game. Play the pier jumping video.

Â

A short rest sitting on the rocks with Dad before the fun begins again.

Throwing rocks in the river with both hands. Those boat racers (you can see them behind Jack’s shoulders upriver in the picture) didn’t know they would have to dodge flying rocks on the way down the river!
